Tell the team exactly which appliance edge the insect crossed, when it appeared and where it moved. Do not pull out, open or electrically isolate an appliance unless you are authorised and competent to do so. A safe photograph or contained specimen is more useful than an unsafe chase behind panels.
Describe the sighting path
Record whether the insect was on the floor, wall, cable route, appliance exterior or inside an accessible cupboard. Note direction, approximate size, colour and whether similar sightings occurred at the same time of day. Include spotting, cast material or odour only as observations, not as proof of species.
Explain the nearby conditions: warmth, condensation, leaks, food debris, cardboard storage, pipe penetrations and adjoining units. Continue normal cleaning of accessible spills, but photograph relevant evidence first. Do not flood gaps or erase every trace before inspection.
If the appliance belongs to a landlord, employer or food business, identify who can safely move or service it. A pest technician should not be expected to remove electrical panels outside the agreed scope. For a commercial fridge, the inspection may need coordination with the appliance engineer and the person responsible for food safety.
Report earlier products precisely
Keep the package or photograph the full label of any spray, powder, bait or fogger already used. Give the date and application area. HSE says biocides must be suitable for their intended use, the label must be followed, and members of the public must not use professional-only products. Do not combine products or apply more around hot equipment, wiring or food areas while waiting.
An insect disappearing behind a refrigerator does not establish a cockroach infestation or prove the appliance is the source. Identification may require a specimen, monitoring and inspection of connected routes. The first action should preserve enough context to choose among those options.
