FOLLOW THE ROUTE
Find where the ants are travelling from.
Ants often follow a clear route between an outside nest, a gap at a door or patio, and food or water inside. Describing that route lets us plan the right treatment before we attend.
BLACK GARDEN ANTS
An outdoor route can explain an indoor trail.
These are the familiar dark ants often seen around paving and gardens. If they stay outdoors without causing a problem, treatment may not be necessary. For an indoor problem, we identify the route and discuss a targeted spray and bait-gel plan.
Bait gel
Workers feed on the bait and share it within the colony. The product, placement and feeding activity all affect how it works. Keep other sprays away from bait placements.
PHARAOH ANTS AND GHOST ANTS
Small indoor ants need a different approach.
These are different species, not two names for the same ant. Both can spread through warm buildings and connected flats. Hidden nests and several colonies make a quick fix unlikely, so identification and the extent of the activity matter.
Pharaoh ants
Very small yellowish or light-brown ants, often nesting in warm, concealed spaces.
Ghost ants
Very small ants with a darker head and pale, translucent legs and abdomen. A clear close-up can help distinguish them, if you already have one.
A carefully placed bait programme lets foraging ants carry the treatment through the colony. Some bait approaches use an insect growth regulator: S-methoprene, for example, interferes with development and reproduction rather than producing an immediate knockdown. Other baits act differently. We explain the selected product and what to expect before work is agreed.
In a block, access to connected areas and cooperation between occupants may be needed. Tell us if neighbouring flats are affected.
